RIM and others Meeting with UK Government regarding Riots

I’m sure you’re all know about the riots in UK, and now RIM and others Meeting with UK Government discussing Riots and the possibility of BBM shutdown, Social Media Ban for all Rioters.
Inside Blackberry blog even hacked few days ago because RIM want to assist UK Government to track down the rioters who’re using BBM. The rioters also use other social media platform like Facebook, Twitter, and others (possible like Gtalk, Yahoo Messenger). Until now, around 600 rioters already arrested and charged for the riots. It’s already clear that BBM and other social media played role for the riots, so right now they’re trying to stop rioters for using social media platform.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron said:

“Mr Speaker, everyone watching these horrific actions will be stuck by how they were organised via social media. Free flow of information can be used for good. But it can also be used for ill. And when people are using social media for violence we need to stop them. So we are working with the Police, the intelligence services and industry to look at whether it would be right to stop people communicating via these websites and services when we know they are plotting violence, disorder and criminality.”

To stop only rioters access the social media is almost impossible I say, but they also can’t shutdown all social media. And also UK Goverment can’t blame social media for this, social media itself it’s just a platform, the only wrong is the rioters. UK Government should take a look at themself why this is happening, shutting down BBM, Twitter and Facebook won’t solve the problem, there are tons of social media out there such as identi.ca, YM, Gtalk, AIM, MSN, and lot others they can use.
